Reflecting on a Nike ad and the Olympic Spirit
This Nike ad sets my teeth on edge. It glorifies hero leadership focused solely on winning. As I
watch the Olympics this week, I am in awe of the dedication and focus it takes to complete as
an elite athlete. Being a kluzy non-athlete myself, the end goals seems a bit mysterious. All that
effort for what?

Recently in a coaching conversation we had a blinding insight. What if it isn’t about the goal?
What if it’s about the journey? How does what I am working on make me joyful and excited?
Despite the grind, do I feel I can still make a difference, and is that sufficient to fill my cup? Do I
have great relationships with the people with whom I work, volunteer, play? The pursuit of goals
is important, but the process and experience along the way are what truly enrich our lives.
